On October 1, an official reception dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Armenia was held at the Grand Hotel Vilnius.
The Guest of Honour of the event was Mr. Kristupas Vaitiekūnas, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania.
The reception was attended by members of the Seimas of Lithuania and senior representatives of state institutions, heads and diplomats of diplomatic missions accredited to Lithuania, Primate of the Armenian Diocese of the Baltic States Archbishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Khosrov Stepanyan, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Armenia in Lithuania Karapet Babajan, intellectuals, public and cultural figures, as well as representatives of the Armenian community.

Welcoming remarks were delivered by the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Lithuania Ara Margarian and Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania Kristupas Vaitiekūnas.

In his remarks, Ambassador Margarian reflected on the Armenian people’s centuries-long aspirations for independent statehood, the challenges Armenia has faced in the process of building and strengthening a sovereign state, the efforts undertaken to overcome them, as well as the reforms implemented and the development agenda of Armenia.

Ambassador Margarian attached particular importance to the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the tangible progress achieved, the prospects for developing regional connectivity infrastructure and, in this context, the outcomes of the Washington Summit of August 2025, particularly the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) project.
Referring to the parliamentary elections held on June 7 in Armenia, Ambassador noted that they took place against the backdrop of direct external pressure aimed at influencing the political choice of Armenian citizens. “Yet, once again, Armenia’s political future was decided through the ballot box and by the citizens of Armenia themselves,” Ambassador emphasized, adding that the work ahead remains considerable: strengthening democratic institutions and the rule of law, combating corruption, advancing Armenia’s European integration and, above all, consolidating the peace that has been achieved.”

Speaking about Armenia–Lithuania relations, Ambassador Margarian particularly emphasized that the 35th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Armenia coincides with the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Lithuania. The anniversary year was marked by the signing in Yerevan on May 19 by the Foreign Ministers of the two countries of the Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Lithuania, elevating bilateral relations to a qualitatively new level.

In his remarks, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania reaffirmed the Lithuanian Government’s support for Armenia’s European integration process and stressed the importance of further developing Armenia–Lithuania relations and deepening bilateral cooperation.

During the reception, Armenian wine and other beverages, as well as traditional Armenian sweets were served to the guests.
